The history of Old School Sign Company begins in 1989 after college, when the owner of the company, Cathy Krommenhoek, began work as an apprentice sign writer in an “old school” environment at a greatly respected sign company in northwest Iowa.  The 20 year history of sign making began in the earlier years each morning with a hand-lettering training session by one of the area’s leading and most respected sign makers.  It was this employment that taught me the business and developed my talents to design and produce commercial advertising.  Since the first day of employment in the sign business I have known this is where my heart lies.  Meeting with the public, understanding the expectations of the client, and producing quality workmanship to last for years to come are my specialty.

The advertising industry has changed dramatically over the years from hand-painted applications to digital computer-aided graphics.  I have successfully kept up with technology, being able to offer my customers both old school, traditional signage as well as digital graphics; a rare trade in the business.

Experience allows Old School Signs to be able to provide a full package, one stop shop to it’s customers by being able to incorporate the production of their logo design into storefront signs and other items in their business plan, as well as offer consulting services of all advertising  products available to them and their business.

Old School Sign Company is an open-door storefront sign production facility that graciously welcomes guests to view the production of the signage that takes place in this office/shop environment.  Climate controlled areas allow customers to view storefront signs in their design phases to production.  A dust-free coat out room allows for excellent coverage for painted base sign boards.  Vehicle lettering also takes place on location.  Cars, trucks, boats, and vans have a designated area for application of vinyl decals or hand-painted graphics.  An area of the shop is also designated as a banner and showcard production area, as well as an area for creation of free-standing signs to make for an efficient environment for all projects and allowing cost effective production methods.
